Maximizing Antimicrobial Resistance Option Data to Inform Infection Control and Stewardship

Session Description: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the inaugural National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Antimicrobial Resistance (AR) Option Data Report. Attendees will be given resources on using AR Option data to inform infection control and stewardship efforts within their facility.

Key topics will include an introduction to the inaugural NHSN AR Option Data Report; detailed explanations of the methods used to analyze AR Option data included in the report; a national summary of antimicrobial resistance and the distribution of the newest AR Option metrics: the Standardized Resistant Infection Ratio (SRIR) and the Pathogen-specific Standardized Infection Ratio (pSIR); and strategies for interpreting a facility’s AR Option data to guide infection control and stewardship efforts within the facility.

This will be an informative presentation led by experts in the field, designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge needed to navigate and utilize NHSN AR Option data. This session is ideal for infection preventionists, quality improvement professionals, healthcare administrators, pharmacists, and public health professionals committed to advancing patient safety and healthcare quality.


Terence Robinson

Public Health Analyst, CDC

Terence is a Public Health Analyst with the CACI International, a contractor for NHSN, within the Surveillance Branch of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) at CDC. Terence has been with the NHSN Team for 3 years and is a subject matter expert for the NHSN Antimicrobial Use and Resistance Module working with facilities and software vendors to support the submission of antimicrobial use and resistance data into NHSN. Terence earned a Master of Public Health from Morehouse School of Medicine, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

Virgie Fields

Senior Public Health Analyst, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Virgie Fields, MS, CPH, CIC is a Senior Public Health Analyst with Lantana Consulting Group, a contractor for the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), within the Surveillance Branch of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, she is a subject-matter expert for the NHSN Antimicrobial Use and Resistance (AUR) Module working with facilities, healthcare systems, and software vendors to support the reporting of antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance data into NHSN. Virgie earned her Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard University and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also certified in Public Health (CPH) and Infection Control (CIC).
