Advancing Infection Prevention Guidance: Updates from APIC Practice Guidance Committee
Session Description: The Practice Guidance Committee compiles, assesses, develops, and influences guidelines and standards related to infection prevention and control. This committee provides a means within APIC to guide and inform the membership on practice issues and recommends official positions on standard guidelines and other pertinent documents affecting the practice of infection prevention and control.
Jennifer Ormsby
Sr. Director of Infection Prevention & Control, Boston Children's Hospital
Jennifer Ormsby, DNP, RN, CPN, CIC, CPNP-PC is the Senior Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has been a nurse for 24 years and in infection prevention for seven of those years. She has completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice and is certified as a pediatric primary care nurse practitioner, as a pediatric nurse and in infection prevention. She is a leader in CLABSI prevention for both inpatient and ambulatory settings, leading the work for the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) on Ambulatory CLABSI prevention. She also participates on the SPS Infection Prevention Advisory Group. She is the vice-chair of the APIC Practice Guidance Committee and leader of multiple tools for infection preventionists including USP 797, patient hand hygiene, behavioral health, long-term care and interpreting Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards. She represents APIC for many AAMI workgroups as the voice of the infection preventionist. She has led and published over 25 publications to highlight infection prevention efforts in high-level disinfection/sterilization, advancement of the infection preventionist (IP), building an ambulatory and procedural area infection prevention business case, investigations, and surgical site infection prevention.
Anoshe Aslam
Associate Director, Inpatient Services, Infection Prevention & Control, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Anoshé Aslam, MPH, CIC, is an Associate Director, Inpatient Services, of Infection Prevention & Control at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Anoshé began her infection prevention career by performing surveillance for Clostridioides difficile and surgical site infections through application of National Healthcare Safety Network definitions. With this experience, she has been able to expand her skillset to include practice observations and performance improvement projects to reduce hospital-acquired infections with a team of Infection Preventionists.
Nancy Christy
Manager, Infection Prevention and Control, Baptist Health Louisville
Nancy Christy, MT, MSHA, CIC, is the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control at Baptist Health Louisville in Kentucky. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Florida State University and completed her Medical Technology training through the U.S. Navy. Ms. Christy worked in Microbiology for 11 years before transitioning to Infection Prevention, after earning a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has more than 21 years of experience in Infection Prevention and has been board certified since 2007. Her career has spanned both university-affiliated and community acute care settings. At the national level, Ms. Christy serves as Vice Abstract Chair for the APIC National Conference Committee. She is also an Associate Editor for an APIC textbook and has collaborated with the SHEA Learning CE Committee to develop educational webinars, as well as the Prevention CHKC course.
Kellie Rusin
Infection Preventionist, Children's Hospital Colorado
Kellie has been a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) since 2011. For the past 13 years she has worked at Children’s Hospital Colorado, the only dedicated Level 1 trauma center in a seven-state region. Kellie has served at the local chapter and national level. Local chapter engagement includes Treasurer and Election Committee of the Mille High APIC chapter. Nationally she is currently serving a three-year term as a member of the Annual Conference Committee. Kellie received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Mesa University and her Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Epidemiology from the University of Colorado Denver. In addition to being certified in Infection Prevention, she maintains a certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
